Ann Whitehead Bell, 74, died March 4, 2012, in Gulfport.
She was born October 5, 1937, in Mobile, AL, and moved to Handsboro in 1942. She graduated from Gulfport High School in 1956, and was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Ann joined the Daily Herald in 1957 as a key punch operator, and in 1958 became a full-time news reporter, covering the Harrison County beat. She was employed for 26 years by Equifax in data gathering Three Coast counties for its Gulfport Credit Bureau. She also worked in inventory at son, Anthony's Bayview Furniture Store in Gulfport.
In retirement, she joined the team that opened the Palace Casino in Biloxi and was, on occasion, named Employee of the Month.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, William C. Whitehead, Sr. and Mary Gertrude Ardoyno; a twin brother, William (Billy) Whitehead; a sister, Betty Kayusa, of Fort Myers, FL.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jimmie Bell, of Gulfport; a daughter, Stacey Shannon Huffman, (Steve), of St. Martin; four sons, Anthony Bell, Jeff Bell (Regina), of Gulfport, Steve Bell (Jane), of Oakvale; and William Bell (Linda) of Madison, AL; two sisters, Katherine Funk, of Metairie, LA; and Antoinette Miller, of Mobile 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
At her request, no funeral is scheduled. She preferred donations be made to her long-time favorite charity, the children of St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, TN.
She wished to thank Dr. Edwin Davidson and the loving staff at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport.
