Angalene Fisher, age 89, of Pass Christian, MS, passed away peacefully in her home August 18, 2021.
Angalene was born in Blue Springs, MS June 10, 1932. Angalene was the youngest of three daughters to a school teacher who was also a cotton farmer in Lee County, MS. She worked with her sisters in the cotton fields throughout her youth to help support her family.
Angalene graduated from Cedar Hill High School in 1950 before following in her father’s footsteps, who had been a teacher in a one room schoolhouse in Union County, MS. She graduated from Blue Mountain College for Women in 1954 with her degree in Education and then William Cary University with her Master’s degree. She taught 4th grade at Gaston Point Elementary and then West Elementary for 25 years before retiring from the Gulfport MS School District in 1995.
As a teacher she was a beacon of kindness, compassion and motivation for her students who excelled under her tutelage. Daily, she poured her love of education into the hearts of her students, pushing them to strive for excellence. Students from half a century ago still recognized and talked to her about their time in her classes.
Upon retirement, she turned her passion of living life to the fullest to her family as well as to the host of animals under her carful watch. She loved earnestly, nurtured carefully and gave freely to those around her. She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as her beloved Shetland ponies and dogs. Every day she could be found riding around the ranch on her ATV giving “treats” to all the horses, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and any other animal that decided to show up. She had a huge heart and treated all of them like family.
Angalene is preceded in death by her parents Oather Bradford “OB” and Hattie Bell Cartwright of Blue Springs, MS as well as her two sisters, Inez Cartwright of Pontotoc, MS and Iona Jacobs of Diamondhead, MS as well as her nephew, John Huckaby, of Horn Lake, MS who she always considered her “ little brother”.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Rex; sons, Dr Rodney (Lori), Randy (Jeanine), and Rick; as well as 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 more on the way.
Angalene was a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who cherished her family every day of her life. Angalene will forever be missed by her family and a great void has been left in all of our lives. Life will never be the same without her.
A private family graveside service will be held at Live Oak Cemetery in Pass Christian, MS.
