Andy Joseph Alfonso, Jr., age 89, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025. He was born on June 14, 1935, in Gulfport, MS. Andy graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Masters’ degree in Banking.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary S. Alfonso; and his parents, Andy J. Alfonso, Sr. and Evelyn L. Alfonso.
Andy is survived by his daughter, Andrea Alfonso Crowson of Austin, TX; his sons, Andy (Suzanne) Alfonso III of Ocean Springs, MS, and Paul A. Alfonso of Gulfport, MS. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Alden Alfonso, Caitlin Alfonso, Ethan Alfonso, Ella Emerson Alfonso, Ivan Crowson, Samuel Crowson, and Jude Crowson.
He also shared a close bond with his brother, Donald (Sherry) Alfonso of Gulfport, MS, as well as his brothers-in-law, Mark (Mary) Serafin of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and John (Patty) Serafin III of Natchez, MS.
Andy met the love of his life, Mary S. Alfonso, while working at Hancock Bank, and they married on July 26, 1969. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who actively participated in his community. He was involved in scuba diving, Boy Scouts, swim teams, tennis teams, and church activities. Andy had a deep love for the outdoors, enjoying camping, hiking, swimming, and scuba diving, as well as cheering for Ocean Springs High School football games. However, his greatest joy was being called “Granddad” by his seven grandchildren.
Andy dedicated his career to banking, serving as Vice President at Hancock Bank, and he also chaired numerous nonprofit organizations throughout his life.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop 301, Trinity Methodist Church, 5007 Lawson Ave., Gulfport, MS 39507.
