Mrs. Alma Sue Hover, age 78 and a resident of Long Beach, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2011, in Pass Christian.
Mrs. Hover was born and raised in Quanah, TX. After moving to Gulfport in 1948, Mrs. Hover graduated from Gulfport High School. She then attended the University of Southern Mississippi where she received her major in Piano Performance. She then taught music with the Moss Point School District, Fernwood Elementary and Clifton Ganus Private School in New Orleans. In 1975, she began teaching private piano lessons in Long Beach until 2010. Mrs. Hover taught hundreds of children during her 35 year career. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and students.
She was a member of the First United Methodist church of Long Beach and participated in Circle 3 and Morning Bible Studies. Her dedication to music and the church was most exemplified by her being the church pianist for 20 years. She was a member and well recognized by the Mississippi Music Teachers Association and she served as the Certification Chairman for the National Music Teachers Association. She held various officer positions in both groups.
She was a member of the Long Beach Yacht Club and the Mardi Gras Krewe of Belles and Buoys.
Mrs. Hover was preceded in death by her parents, H.E. & Ollie Jackson; niece, Cathy Stone, and nephew, Johnny Johnson.
Mrs. Hover is survived by her husband of 56 years, Reginald John Hover, Jr.; son, Mike (Terri) Hover of Mt. Pleasant, SC.; daughter, Lisa (Greg) Russell and grandson, Tyler Russell of Long Beach; sister, Doris (Jack) Stone of Hattiesburg; two nephews, and a niece.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, from 6pm-8pm at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at 10am at First United Methodist Church in Long Beach, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Gulf Pines Cemetery in Long Beach.
The family would like to thank the staff at Dixie White House Nursing Facility for their care and compassion.
