MCPO Allen L. Hopkins, US Navy Retired, age 66, of Gulfport, died Friday, May 1, 2009 at Keesler Medical Center.
Mr. Hopkins was a native of Altoona, Pennsylvania and was a resident of the MS Gulf Coast since 1973. He received a degree in Hospital Administration from Southern Illinois University. Mr. Hopkins retired from the US Navy after 24 years as a Master Chief Petty Officer. He was an avid reader and bowler in the Senior leagues and was active in classic cars on the coast.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd G. Hopkins. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Nancy Hopkins; his mother, Patricia Hopkins; his three children, Brian A. Hopkins and wife Betty, Patti Deen and fiance Larry H. Miller, and Lori Hopkins Wallace; 10 grandchildren, Kristen, Jamye, Matthew, Derek, Philip, Patrick, Summer, Drew, Brandon and Christopher; 4 great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Ashlyn, Phoenix and Addison; and by his Shih Tzu, Buttons, who was his constant companion.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation and gathering from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m., today, May 4, 2009 at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of South MS.
