Alice “Betty” Hinman passed away on Friday, October 9, 2020 at the age of 99 in Daphne, Alabama. Our beloved Mother was strong in her Christian faith and touched the lives of so many around her. She served God every day through her love and devotion to her family, friends and even people she didn’t know very well. She fought the good fight in this pandemic against the coronavirus and complications, and earned the nickname “Bounce Back Betty.”
Betty was very active in her church and a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairhope and First Baptist Church of Gulfport for more than 50 years. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother of six children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Betty was born in Shreveport, LA on March 26, 1921 to parents, Mattie Johnson McGehee and Thomas Ford McGehee, and was a long-time resident of Gulfport, MS. She graduated from Fairhope High School in 1939 and Hillman College in 1942. Also that year, she met and married her husband, Chauncey Titus Hinman, while working at the SeaBee Base in Gulfport during WWII. Chauncey and Betty had celebrated 47 blissful years of marriage before his passing away in 1989. Betty loved adventure and frequently traveled with her dogs throughout the US in her Airstream trailer. More recently, she celebrated many birthdays in Daphne and Fairhope bringing the family together from all over the country.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Chauncey Titus Hinman, her sisters, Joyce Spruill and Bobbye Meek; and her brother, Tom McGehee.
She is survived by her six children Larry Hinman (and wife, Betty) of San Jose, CA, Brian Hinman (Retha) of Laurel, MD, Mike Hinman (and wife, Connie) of Ocean Springs, MS, Beth Lynch of Raleigh, NC and Rena Garrison (and husband, Scott) of Raleigh, NC and Bradley Hinman (and wife, Vickie) of Daphne, AL ; seven grandchildren, Rachel, Ashley, Lara, Jill, Joshua, Christina and Kathleen; and two great-grandchildren, Matias and Parker.
