Alice Finley Dunaway, age 79, of Gulfport, died on September 27, 2007 in Gulfport.
Born on December 26, 1927 in Gulfport, MS, the fourth child of Chester and Lena Boyer Finley, she grew up in Gulfport and graduated from Gulfport High School, Class of 1945. During World War II, she was a member of the Military Maids, an organization which attended dances at Keesler Field, Gulfport Field, the Seabee base, and the Gulfport Community Center. A member of the Christian Science Society, a church founded by her grandparents, she was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Star Twirlers Square Dance Club, Tic-Tac Round Dance Club, the Tole Painters Club, and the Scarlett Magnolia Belles Red Hat Group. Mrs. Dunaway served as Vice President of the Mississippi Power Company Retirees group, the 'Power Outages.'
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Orion S. Dunaway; her son, Glen Ford Dunaway; three brothers; and a sister.
Mrs. Dunaway is survived by her three children, Chet Dunaway and his wife, Janette, of Huntsville, AL, Betty Gail Gallender and her husband, Joe, of Gulfport, MS, and Mark Dunaway and his partner, Marc Gofstein, of Madison, WI; four grandchildren, Rob and Kevin Dunaway, and Shelly and Nathan Gallender; and five great-grandchildren.
The service will be held on Monday, October 1, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport, where friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
