Alex C. Lopez, age 69 and a resident of Gulfport since 1969, died on Friday, March 20, 2009, in Gulfport.
Mr. Lopez was a Native American of California, and an Apache Indian. He served 22 years in the U.S. Army and 8 years in the Civil Service with the U.S. Government. Mr. Lopez was a former member of the Northward Baptist Church in Gulfport, a member of Lulac Club, Flotilla 37 with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and a part-time EMT.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Mary Sanchez Lopez and his brothers, Amador Lopez and Daniel Lopez.
Mr. Lopex is survived by his loving wife, Norma Lopez of Gulfport; his children, Gwendolyn Lopez of Fresno, CA, Beverly LeBeouff of Sacramento, CA, Nona Le Lopez of Rossville, GA, and Floyd Dean of Ooltewah, TN; his two brothers, David Lopez of CA, and Luie Lopez of Selma, CA; his four sisters, Lupe Vargas of Mexico, Linda Offenheiser of CA, Anna Collins of Clovis, CA, and Emily Prentis of Selma, CA; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, 24 foster children, and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 2159 E. Pass Rd., Gulfport, MS, 39507.
