Duke Cumberland

Alex "Duke" Cumberland, aged 77, passed away at noon on March 30, 2024 in D'Iberville MS. 

Mr. Cumberland was born on October 29, 1946, in Pascagoula MS. He was raised in Gulfport and graduated from Gulfport High in 1964. He was a longtime resident of D'Iberville, MS. He was a Vietnam Veteran and Retired MSgt from the United States Air Force, which he proudly served for 22 years from 1965 to 1987. Duke was an avid golfer; he won many Long Drive contests and Golf Tournaments in both the United States and Europe. He also caddied for the PGA Tour at times while he was stationed in Hawaii. Finally returning home to the Mississippi Gulf Coast for good in 1985. After retiring from active duty in 1987, he didn't stay retired long. He returned to K.A.F.B. and worked in Civil Service from 1988 to 2008 until he retired as a GS9. Duke was a loving husband, a great father, and friend.

He is preceded in death by his father, Alex B. Cumberland; his mother, Leola Cumberland-Bourree; a brother, Lonnie "Tally" Cumberland; 2 sisters, Jeannie M. Livings and Burla C. Seger.

He is survived by his precious wife of 41 years, Ronnie K. Cumberland; sister, Wetonia Redding of Horn Lake, MS; 3 sons, David Cumberland of Tallahassee FL; Stephen Cumberland and his wife Becki of Crestview FL; Cory Wilson and his wife Melody of Vancleave MS;. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Ariana Wilson- Sanchez, Justin Wilson, Elizabeth Cumberland, Ashley Cumberland, Cassie Cumberland, Kallie Rester and husband Ty, Kaden Hughes; and 3 great grandchildren, Lillith Sanchez, Connor Rester, and Owen Rester along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends.

The family would like to say thank you to the Dr's, nurses, and techs from K.A.F.B. hospital and Arden Hospice for helping him throughout his last few months.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 1:00 PM, with visitation starting at 12:00, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Rd. Biloxi, MS 39531. Graveside service with military honors will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave. Biloxi, MS.
