Albro “Bodie” P. Michell, Jr., of Pass Christian, MS, died March 22nd, two days before his 86th birthday at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, MS.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Christopher David Michell; parents, Albro and Mida Castell Michell; sister, Mida Tuohy and brother-in-law Edward “Skeets” Tuohy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Danielle Gagnet Michell and sons Michael Michell, Patrick MIchell (Rochelle Gautreaux), and Mark Michell; grandsons, Miles Michell and Evan Michell and granddaughter, Michell Whitmire; and two great-granddaughters, Elle Whitmire and Ayla Whitmire. He is also survived by his brothers, Jacques Michell (Wendy) and Peter Michell (Barbara). 

Bodie was a proud 9th generation New Orleanian who attended Holy Name of Jesus Grammar School and graduated from De La Salle High School in 1955. He served in the Coast Guard prior to becoming an apprentice bar pilot. Following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps, he piloted in Southwest Pass for 37 years. He graduated from Loyola University cum laude in 1982.  A lifelong learner, Bodie loved reading and was politically active in both his local and state communities in both Louisiana and Mississippi. In his life he enjoyed basketball, snow skiing, scuba diving, and sailing. After he retired in 1999, Bodie and Danielle moved to Pass Christian, MS. Enjoying retired life, Bodie taught at the Maritime School in Covington, LA, and could often be found volunteering for many local organizations such as the Gulfport Seaman Center helping traveling seaman and as a board member of Shepherds of the Gulf. He was a member of the Pass Christian Yacht Club and the Historical Society of Pass Christian. He gave presentations on navigation on the Mississippi River and WWII submarine warfare in the Gulf of Mexico to community groups throughout the coast. Being an active member of his church, he achieved the 4th degree in the Knights of Columbus. He gave generously of his time and talent in service to his fellow man.

The family would like to thank Angèle McCaleb, Farrah Brown, and Frieda Allen and the wonderful staff of Memorial Hospital and Deaconess Home Health for all their loving care and support.

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 10 – 11 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 22342 Evangeline Drive, pass Christian, MS 39571.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am in the church.  Interment will take place on Monday, April 3, 2023, at 10:30 am in Lakelawn Metairie Cemetery.
