Alberta E. Niesen, 89, of Gulfport, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019 in Gulfport.
Mrs. Niesen was a native of New Orleans and a long-time resident of Gulfport. Prior to retiring, she was a social worker and teacher with Head Start for thirty years. Alberta started each day by reading her Bible and saying her prayers. When she was younger and able, Alberta loved to dance. She met Bob when he asked her to dance, and they were married 62 years at the time of his passing. Remembering difficult times, Bob and Alberta would keep food in the freezer to send home with those who visited them. She liked being around people and enjoyed making them "happy." Getting together with family and friends brought her great joy. Her family and many friends will miss hearing her parting words during phone calls, "Remember, this old lady loves you."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Niesen, Sr.; and her sisters, Gloria Estrada and Helen Landry. Survivors include her children, Connie M. Kaylor (Tom), Peggy A. Weier (Gary) and Robert A. Niesen; her sister, Alvinia Sigur; her three grandchildren, Daniel E. Sullivan (Carrie), Matthew Kaylor (Crystal) and Shane Niesen; her two great-grandchildren, Marianna Sullivan and Annslee Sullivan; and her sisters-in-law, Loucille McCarter and Joyce Dolezal.
The Graveside Service for Alberta will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 4th at Biloxi National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children (https://donate.lovetotherescue.org).
