Alberta Bostick Byrne, age 96, of Pass Christian, MS passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017 in Bay St. Louis, MS.
Mrs. Byrne was born May 7, 1920 in Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Parish. She was the widow of the late Julien Keller Byrne, Jr. She was educated in New Orleans at Ursuline High School and College, where her mother's sister Pauline was the "Mother General" of the Ursuline Order in the western hemisphere.
She, with her husband and children, became residents of Pass Christian in 1950, residing at Tangled Oaks in the Pineville community. Tangled Oaks was her husband's idea of heaven. She was a city girl but learned to love Pass Christian and its people. The family later moved back to New Orleans, but made their way again to Pass Christian in 1967. Mrs. Byrne owned and operated a gift shop facing the harbor, The Sandpiper, for several years before Hurricane Camille.
Mrs. Byrne was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Charles Bostick, Sr. and Georgiana McKinney Bostick; her husband of 53 years, Julien or "Jake" as he was known, by her four brothers, who were an endless source of funny stories, Edward McKinney Bostick, Maurice Hardel Bostick, Robert Douglas Bostick, and Lt. Joseph Charles Bostock, Jr. USAF; her sister, Marian Cook; and her grandson, R. Legier Kuhner, Jr.
She is survived by one son, Julien Keller (Christian) Byrne, III of Pass Christian; daughters, Dr. Mary Brenda Byrne of Philadelphia, PA, Georgia Kuhner , Elizabeth (Steve) Wittmann, both of Pass Christian, and Katherine (Allen) Speck of Kansas City, MO; her five grandchildren, Julien Keller Byrne (Laura) Kuhner, Joseph Theodore (Nita) Kuhner, Elizabeth Erin (Toby) Speck, Stephen Byrne Wittmann and Samuel Maurice Wittmann; granddaughter-in-law, Debbie Mastio Kuhner; great-grandchildren, Lucy, Molly, Robert, Tallulah, Corinne and Jake Kuhner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express its appreciation to the staff of Dunbar Village and is especially grateful to Cheirrel, Tina, and Sarah for the many years of loving and compassionate care. Also, many thanks to Stephanie of Notre Dame Hospice for her wonderful support.
"A" as she was known to all, was the epitome of the phrase "Beautiful, inside and out". She laughed that she was only known as "so-and-so's" mother, and nothing could have made her happier. Her husband and children were her focus and fulfillment. She also loved babies and would embarrass her children by asking to hold the babies of complete strangers. She was well loved at Dunbar Village where she lived for almost 7 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Chapel, Pass Christian, with a visitation for family and friends from 10:00 AM until the Mass. Burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery.
