Albert Rowell

Mr. Albert Elvin Rowell, age 83, of Long Beach, passed away on April 5, 2017.
He was born in Heidelberg, MS and graduated from Heidelberg High School in 1953. He served 3 years in the Security Agency of the United States Army and was honorably discharged in January 1957. He met Peggy Marie Mason and they were married in December 1957. He graduated from Jones County Junior College in 1958 and the University of Southern Mississippi in 1959. He worked for Humble Oil and Refining Company in Houston, TX from 1959 - 1961.
He was employed with the IRS from 1961 and retired in 1990 and was the manager of the Gulfport Office for the last 15 years of employment. He then worked for the State Tax Commission, as a Criminal Investigator, from 1990 to January 2004 when he retired. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Long Beach and served as the treasurer of the church, taught Sunday School, and counted the money collected by the church. He was a member of Joppa Temple on the Gulf Coast and was the Potentate in 1990. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and was a member of Southern Star Lodge #500 in Long Beach where he served as Master of the lodge in 2009.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Kirby and Truman Audrey Lightsey Rowell, a daughter, Dana Aminett Rowell; and 2 brothers, Truman Rowell and Kirby Rowell.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Peggy Rowell; and a son, Terry (Mila) Rowell.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 10,, 2017, from 10 - 11 am at the First United Methodist Church of Long Beach. The funeral service will be held at 11 am in the sanctuary. Burial will take place in Long Beach City Cemetery.
