Mr. Albert Necaise, age 87, of Gulfport, passed away on November 19, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Mamie Necaise; and a granddaughter, Whitney Lee.
Mr. Necaise is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lois Ann Walker Necaise; his children, Ann Lee (Jack), Michael Necaise (Cindy), and Brian Necaise (Carlin); his grandchildren, Lauren Williams (Ted), Tresse Sumrall (Austin), Ryan Necaise (Lauren), Anna Necaise, Jackson Lee, and Colton Lee; his great-grandchildren, Knox Brogdon, Adler Brogdon, Ollie Sumrall, and Truett Necaise; and other relatives, colleagues, and friends.
He was born in Gulfport on September 26, 1936. He attended Perkinston Junior College on a basketball scholarship and graduated in 1957, graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science in 1959, and the Mississippi College School of Law in 1964 with a Juris Doctorate. He has been practicing law in Gulfport since 1964 and served as District Attorney for 12 years before opening his current office in 1983 with a concentration in criminal law, personal injury, worker’s compensation, probate and family law. In 1964, Mr. Necaise was admitted to the Mississippi Bar, The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Southern District, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Northern District, and in 1967, he was admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court.
He served as an Assistant District Attorney from 1965 – 1971 for Harrison, Hancock, and Stone Counties before being elected District Attorney 3 terms from 1971 – 1983. From 1998 – 2005, he served as the Court Prosecutor for the City of Wiggins, and in 1998, was the attorney for the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. He also represented the Harrison County School District, The Stone County Regional Correctional Facility, The Stone County Sheriff’s Office, and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
Mr. Necaise was a member of several professional organizations including: The Mississippi Bar Association, the Mississippi Prosecutor's Association, NDAA Alumni, The American Bar Association, Who’s Who in American Law 2nd Edition, American Inns of Court, Harrison County Bar Association, Mississippi School Board Association, American Association of Justice, and the Mississippi Association for Justice. In 1984, he received the President’s Award form the NDAA and also received a number of other awards and commendations over his distinguished career practicing law. He was also a founding member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Orange Grove and a current member of St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport.
He enjoyed sports officiating, bird dog field trials, cattle farming, spending time with family and friends, and attending Ole Miss Football Games.
The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Christina, Chris, Dr. Douglas Lanier, Dr. Paul Mullen, Dr. Dudley Burwell, and Dr. Conger for all of their special care over the last several years.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 24, 2023, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at St. James Catholic Church, 366 Cowan Road, Gulfport. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
