Albert Kelly McGavock, lovingly known as Kelly, peacefully passed away on March 27 2024. He was born on September 10, 1940. Kelly's life was filled with dedication and service to his country and community.
Kelly's career was a testament to his commitment to making a difference. He served in the Civil Service at CBC in Gulfport, MS, as a Supervisor in Ship Building in Pascagoula, MS, and as a safety coordinator and environmental manager. His work ethic and passion for ensuring safety and quality will always be remembered.
A proud veteran, Kelly retired as a Master Chief from the US Navy after serving honorably in Vietnam. His dedication to service extended to working at the White House under President Gerald Ford and serving on the USS Intrepid and USS Saratoga. Kelly's military service exemplified his courage and love for his country.
Education was essential to Kelly, who obtained an Associates degree from FL Junior College in Jacksonville, FL. His thirst for knowledge never waned, and he carried his love for learning throughout his life.
Aside from his professional achievements, Kelly studied family genealogy and was an active member of the Staunton Military Academy Alumni Association. He also found great joy in his involvement with Trinity Bible Church at River Oaks in Biloxi, MS.
Kelly will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and selflessness. His personality shone brightly through his servant's heart—he aimed to put others' needs before his own, especially when it came to his children and grandchildren.
His surviving loved ones are: his devoted wife of 62 years, LaVonne McGavock; children Lisa Rawlings of Greensboro, NC; Mark MaGavock (Jennifer) of Water Valley, MS; David Holley of Greensboro, NC; siblings Jim McGavock (Louise) of Staunton, VA; Bob McGavock of Chattanooga, TN; Don McGavock (Carolyn) of Parksley, VA; grandchildren Kathryn Hashemi (Saber), Rebecca and Savanna McGavock; Jonathan & Joshua Holley.
Albert Kelly McGavock is now reunited with his late parents, Mr. & Mrs. J.W. McGavock; brothers Bill McGavock and Edwin McGavock; and his beloved daughter, Laura Holley. While he may no longer be physically present with us, the memories we shared with him will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
