Al L. Porter passed away July 29, 2009 in Jacksonville, FL where he had recently lived.
Born in Ohio on January 8, 1914, he graduated from the Univ. of Alabama and got a Masters Degree at Penn. State. Al met his wife Sara while in Mississippi for Army Training prior to World War II. After returning to Ohio, he was a school teacher and coach for many years in Painesville, OH. He reached the rank of Lt. Col. in the Army Reserves after his 5 years of active service. In 1975 The Porters retired to Biloxi living at Seashore Manor on Beach Blvd. His wife died in 1993, and he moved from Biloxi after Hurricane Katrina.
Mr. Porter is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Ric & Theresa Porter of Cumming, GA and Jacksonville, son, Jeff Porter, Park City, UT; Granddaughters, Elizabeth Porter, Dallas, TX, and Melinda Hawkins-Porter, Austin, TX, and a number of step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation is Friday, August 14 at 9:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi with burial at the Biloxi National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. You may sign the online guestbook at www.riemannfamily.com.
