Addie Nell Pennington McKay
Born in New Holland, GA, to Emory Fretwell Pennington and Georgianne Hunter, Penny moved to Gulfport, MS in 1947. She was married to Edgar Lee ""Red"" McKay for 64 years. She was a faithful wife, loving mother, Godly intercessory prayer warrior, teacher, and spiritual mentor to many who lovingly called her Mama Penny. Mrs. McKay was born in Hall County, GA to Emory and Georgia Anne Hunter Pennington. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, teacher, and spiritual mentor to many who called her ""Mama Penny.""
She is preceded in death by her parents, four brother, and 2 sisters.
She is survived by her loving husband, Edgar L. ""Red"" McKay of Gulfport; children, Johnny Lee McKay (Linda) of Ocean Springs, Willie Nadiene Sohn (Gene) of Picayune, Patricia Joyce ""Patsy"" Sweeting (Michael) of Long Beach, MS, and Terry Lynn Wilhelm (Alan) of North Miami, FL; eight grandchildren, Shane, Brooks, and Damian McKay, Michael Oglialoro, Kenny Sohn, Kara Sohn, Summer McWilliams and Kasey Sweeting; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Her devotion to her church family was split between First Assembly of God in Gulfport and Gulf Coast Worship Center in Long Beach.
Mother was the rock of the family we could always count on for guidance. She set the highest Christian standards, always placing God's Word as her guide. She had few possessions but never complained as she said, ""God provides all that I need."" Mom, we owe you so much that we could never begin to repay. It hurts so much to let you go Mom, but we are so proud that you are rejoicing now in Heaven with your Heavenly Father. You are Home at last.
Deep appreciation and gratitude go to Dr. Jimmy Dimitriades for your years of care, Dr. Edupuganti for your tender care not only of our Mother but her family as well, the fourth floor Memorial Hospital critical care staff, Elizabeth Powell, her physical therapist (a/k/a physical ""terrorist"") Susan Pierson and Sheryl Olaivar of Tender Loving Care, Kayana Pittman and her Mother, Ms. Linda, of Nursing Management, and Mr. Larry Brantley of Medicaid Waiver. Thank you all and may God bless you as you have truly blessed us.
