Abner aÌâÅBuzzyaÌâ Knight Northrop Jr., a native of New Orleans and long-time resident of Pass Christian, Miss., died Tuesday, March 10, at the age of 78.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Kennedy Northrop of Pass Christian, Miss., and is survived by his daughter, Amy (Mike) McGinity, of Alexandria, La., his sons, Jamie (Donna) Northrop of Brandon, Miss., Clifton Northrop of Cape Coral, Fla., and Kevin (Tabitha) Northrop of Daphne, Ala., as well as his grandchildren, Knight (Marlissa) Northrop, Kate (Toby) Barker, Meagan, Courtney and Allison McGinity, and Elizabeth Kennedy Northrop.
Known for his keen wit, nimble feet and charismatic personality, Buzzy was beloved by his family and friends. An active member of the Gulf Yachting Association, he served as commodore of Pass Christian Yacht Club twice among numerous other longstanding contributions. His favorite pastimes were sailing on the sound and spinning tales to loved ones ashore. He will be missed by all those fortunate to have known him.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 14, at 2 p.m. at Live Oak Cemetery in Pass Christian. The service will be followed by a celebration of his life at Pass Christian Yacht Club.
