Robert Richards, Jr.

Robert Lee Richards Jr, age 84 of Long Beach, passed away on June 24, 2021.

He was born January 15, 1937, in New Orleans, LA. He graduated from Behrman High School in Algiers, La, and went on to graduate from University of Southwestern Louisiana, and always considered New Orleans his home, no matter where he lived.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Richards Sr.; his mother, Lillian North Richards; and his grandchildren, Danielle Richards and Benjamin Richards.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Betty S. Richards; his children, Robert Lee Richards III (Rachell), Ben George Richards (Suzanna), Mary Elizabeth Shill (Dennis), Jan Marie Seiler (John), Bryan John Richards; his step children, Angela Hilton, Tracey Peranich (Stephen), and Charles Wright; his grandchildren, Brett Richards (Katy), John Richards (Tess), Christie Penot (Matt), Joseph Richards, Corey Richards, Zachary Griffith (Danielle), Gabby Seiler, Caroline Peranich, Christopher Peranich, Emma Clare Peranich, Sam Pumphrey, Dex Shill (Lyndi), Davis Shill, Daniel Cole Shill; his great grandchildren, Penelope, Hazel, Sadie, Reese, Rowen, Asher, Sophia, Delanie, Zachery, Brandon, Austin, Kennedy, Leighton; and his beloved pets, Maggie and Sophia.

Robert was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Bay St. Louis, MS. He was an avid reader and had special interest articles published in the Sun Herald. He also contributed to his homeowner’s association newsletter in Baton Rouge, La. He never missed and occasion to create and send greeting cards to his friends and family. Throughout his life, he served his community as city alderman, coaching, refereeing youth sports, sponsoring CYO events, and participating in carnival associations in Mississippi and Louisiana. Robert was a sports enthusiast, who was a Saints fan, but his true passion was LSU sports. He was often seen wearing purple and gold to represent the LSU tigers. After retiring from Sandford Corporation in 2020, he enjoyed traveling across the country in his RV and traveling to other countries with his wife, Betty.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 28, 2021, at Christ Episcopal Church, 912 South Beach Blvd, Bay St. Louis, MS, with a visitation from 1:00 PM until the service.
