Robert Wells ""Bob"" Breeden Jr., age 89, native of New Orleans, died on August 3, 2015.
He was the son of Robert Wells Breeden and Lucia O'Reilly Breeden and beloved husband for 65 years to Madeleine O'Donnell.
Bob is survived by his wife and children, Robert W. Breeden III, Mark A. Breeden (Patti), Edward ""Ned"" William Breeden, Madeleine Ammentorp (Kevin), Becky Nunn (Jules), and Peter Breeden, and one brother, John O'Reilly Breeden (Joan) of Bay St. Louis, MS. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Breeden was preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick D. Breeden and Frank M. Breeden, and two sons, Roger and Harry.
He attended Jesuit and Fortier High Schools and later started at Loyola University in 1942. He joined the Navy as a midshipman in 1943, and after graduating the Merchant Marine Academy in 1945, Bob served faithfully in the Merchant Marines as a Chief Mate and as a Lieutenant in the Navy submarine reserve until 1958.
After graduating from Loyola, Mr. Breeden worked in the insurance profession for 35 years specializing as a broker in Marine Casualty Insurance and was a Certified Property Casualty Underwriter. After his retirement in 1984, his family moved to Bay St. Louis, MS.
Bob's lifelong interest in sailing was shared with his wife and children and they were members of BWYC and SYC. Mr. and Mrs. Breeden sailed across the Gulf and traveled extensively around the world. As a devout catholic, he served several parishes for over 35 years as Lector and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday, August 8, 2015 where relatives and friends are invited to attend with visitation from 10 - 11 am at the chapel of St. Augustine Seminary off of Ulman St. in Bay St. Louis. Interment will be held at Greenwood cemetery in New Orleans at 2:30 pm.
The family requests Masses or donations to Saint Augustine Seminary, 199 Seminary Drive, Bay St. Louis, MS, 39520, or the charity of your choice.
