Klain William Garriga, age 71, of Gulfport, passed away July 1, 2020, in New Orleans, LA.

He was born in 1949 to William P. Garriga and Zelma Louise Garriga. He joined the U.S. Army in 1967 and after sustaining injuries during a combat action in Vietnam, Klain was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. He returned home to start a family, and began working at the Gulfport Police Department, where he served as a Patrolman and a Detective. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he obtained his bachelor's degree, while setting his sights to be a Federal Special Agent. In 1973, Klain began service at the Naval Construction Battalion Center where he served as the base detective. In 1981, Klain began his career with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. The culmination of his military service, education and law enforcement experience provided an opportunity for him to be the Special Agent in Charge of the Environmental Protection Agency's Criminal Investigative Division New Orleans, LA where he served until his retirement in 2005.

Klain is survived by his wife, Cathy; son, Klain Garriga; 2 daughters, Shannon Garbutt and Amanda Boyle; a brother, John Garriga; a sister, Joan Garriga; 9 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Thursday, July 9, 2020, from 5 – 7 pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. Military honors will be rendered at 6 pm in the funeral home chapel. A private interment will take place in Biloxi National Cemetery.

All current social distancing guidelines will be adhered to during the time of gathering.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project.
