Frank Palazzo, Jr.

Frank “SMILES” Salvatore Palazzo, Jr, age, 82, of Gulfport, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank S. Palazzo and Helen Stone Palazzo; and a sister, Virginia Lund and her husband, Gene Lund.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Muriel McCarty Palazzo; his children, Frank S. Palazzo, III (Mitzi), Steven Palazzo; daughter-in-law, Lisa Palazzo, Betsy Palazzo Hertz (Lee), and Kyle R Palazzo; his siblings, Mary Helen Morrison (late Arthur Morrison), Butch Palazzo (Susan), Flo Stieffel (late Bert Stieffel), and Buddy Palazzo (Vicki); his grandchildren: Katie Palazzo, Nicholas Hertz, Barrett Palazzo, Kennady Hertz, Aubrey Palazzo, Bennett Palazzo, and Hendrix Palazzo.

Mr. Palazzo was a native and lifelong resident of Gulfport. He was a graduate of Gulfport High School and he attended the University of Southern Mississippi. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1955 – 1963. Mr. Palazzo was a real estate developer and he also worked offshore, ostrich breeding, insulation, restaurant, and other small business ventures. His greatest achievement was the pride and love he had for his entire family. He was beloved by many. He loved his life, his family and friends. He had a big heart and would help anyone in need. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, football, and spending time outdoors. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.

After a lengthy battle with cancer, he died peacefully surrounded by his family. Thanks to Dr. Stephanie Fussell, Dr. Doug Lanier, Canon Hospice, and Care4AllCaregivers for taking such great care of him.

In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred for the St. Vincent de Paul Society or Palmer Home for Children.
