Dominic Pham

1948 — January 1, 2020

Biloxi

Dominic Xuan Van Pham (1948-2020), will always be remembered as a devoted son, brother, loving husband, father and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his father Ho Phu Pham, his brother Khai Pham and his sisters Voc Pham and Lan Pham Nguyen (Tai). He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Tam Thi Vu, his sons Kevin Pham (Nancy), Fr. Dominic Pham, Long Pham (Julie), Nam Pham (YunChing) and Viet Pham, his daughters Vicky Pham Nguyen (Tin), Trish Pham Dinh (Chris), Thy Pham Zheng (Gui) and Tho Pham, and 11 grandchildren, Phillip Pham, Lily Pham, AiVy Nguyen, Mai-Ha Nguyen, Ly-An Nguyen, Melanie Dinh, Jax Dinh, Noah Pham, Zoe Pham, Yileen Xuan Pham, and Arden Zheng. He is also survived by his 99 year old mother Lai Thi Vu, his brother Dong Pham, and his sisters Phuong Pham Nguyen (Chuong), Hoa Pham Bui (Toi), Mai Pham Nguyen (Xuyen) and Cuc Pham Nguyen (Ngoc), and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Born in North Vietnam into a devout Catholic family, his priorities have always been God and family, while making friends effortlessly with everyone who crossed paths with him. A hard working man, he always prided himself in giving and providing rather than receiving and provided for, and would never ask anyone to do something he would not do himself.

As a young boy, his family emigrated to South Vietnam at the outbreak of the Vietnam War, and served in the South army fighting for freedom alongside American soldiers. He later married the love of his life, Maria Tam Thi Vu, in 1969. Faith steered their relationship and love motored their marriage through many life trials. In 1978, he and his best friend (Vuong) led 120 people to freedom on their fishing boat. After a year living in a Malaysian refugee camp, his family arrived to the USA and settled in New Orleans, LA, and later moved to Biloxi, MS., then Houma, LA and back to Biloxi.

With his wife Tam, he built a beautiful family, who all adored their hero and loved being with him and learning from him. He was a master storyteller and would retell stories over and over to the delight of his audience. He enjoyed music and one of his favorite pastimes was karaoke with his family and friends.

It is undeniable that his passion in life is fishing. Everyone knew him as a dedicated fisherman of 50+ years and loved the sea more than land. He saved every dollar and penny to buy his first fishing boat in 1983. His last and favorite boat was the Lucky One, which his children jokingly called his 'favorite child'.

While known and loved for many virtues, the most outstanding trait of this good man was his simplicity. He loved everything simple and enjoyed the ordinary things of life to the fullest. Wise and knowledgeable to all who knew him, he was low key and preferred to inspire by example rather than words, yet when he spoke, every word counted.

We, his family, thank all our relatives and friends near and far for their love and care. Please continue to keep Dominic Xuan Van Pham in your thoughts and prayers. Special thanks to Sacred Heart Parish, Vietnamese Martyr Parish, Jason Green and Riemann Family Funeral Home, for being so kind and diligent in helping our family during these sad but comforting days.
