Barbara Walker

August 31, 1933 — June 25, 2021

Gulfport

Barbara Ann (Pierce) Walker was born August 31, 1933 in Jackson, MS and passed away on June 25, 2021 in Gulfport, MS at the age of 87.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Jackson Pierce and Lucille Vaughan Pierce; her half sister, Rilla Mae Van Vactor; and her husband of 57 years, Warren K. "Tiny" Walker, Sr.

She is survived by her children, Linda Walker Comstock (David), and Warren "Kenny" Walker, Jr. (Susan); her grandchildren, Amy Comstock Parker (Greg) and Ashley Comstock; and her two great-grandchildren, Garrett Comstock and Grant Comstock.

Barbara, affectionately known by most as "Baboo", was a devoted mother and grandmother. She cherished her family above all else and kept every card and letter she ever received. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She retired from Mississippi Power Company after over 17 years of service. Barbara was a highly skilled stenographer and was known for her efficiency in short-hand and dictation. She was a literary and grammatical genius and was often called upon to proof documents and resolve grammatical disputes. She began her career as a secretary and moved up through the ranks, ultimately retiring from the Corporate Communications Department. She had several roles, one of which was an Employee Development Clerk where she trained many employees who are still there today. During another point of her tenure, she was promoted to Public Information in the General Office and during that time she and two co-workers wrote a jingle for "Little Reddy Kilowatt", a well-known cartoon character associated with electric generation.

She was a member of the American Business Women's Association for over 30 years. She held every office three times, chaired every committee (some twice), and attended district and national conventions. She was a dedicated leader with near perfect attendance over those years and made many lasting friendships.

Throughout her lifetime, Barbara had many hobbies. She was an excellent seamstress, artist, and could crochet with lightning speed. Many tried to learn from her, but her skills were hard to match. She volunteered several of her retirement years to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, utilizing her secretarial skills in the church rectory. She had an innate ability to recall dates, historical events, anniversaries and birthdays and with her goes years of cherished memories.

The children would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Diana Lawton. She was a devoted and caring companion to our parents in their deepest time of need and for that we are forever grateful.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Gulfport.
