MSgt. Shirley Owens Steen, USAF, Retired, age 69 and a resident of Long Beach, MS, died on Sunday, January 5, 2014, in Gulfport, MS.
Mrs. Owens was a native of Holden, LA, where she attended the 1st United Pentecostal Church. She retired from the US Air Force after 23 years of service, and then retired after 20 years of service with the South MS Regional Center in Long Beach. She was a member of the Long Beach Yacht Club and the Red Hat Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny & Ella Owens, her husband, Thomas E. Steen and her nephew, Doug Owens, Jr.
Mrs. Owens is survived by her brothers, Johnny (Jinnie) Owens, Jr. of Beebe, AR and Doug (Lil) Owens of Holden, LA; her nephews, Aaron Owens, Chris Owens, Blaine Forbes, Corey Smith, and Arron Smith; her niece, Andrea Owens and several great nephews and great nieces.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at 12:15pm at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at National Cemetery in Biloxi, MS, with military honors to be rendered by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.
